comfort eating

Current work: revisions to Medical continuity
Listening to: Bach
Reading: Ariana Franklin, Relics of the Dead (I am a big fan of this series – and this one so far is shaping up to be just as good as the earlier ones)

Busy day today. Interview with lovely Emma (who was impressed by the iPad); visiting Dad (who was brighter today but still very confused); quick purchase of birthday presents; and of course working on the revisions and the outline.

Not helped by the fact that (a) I have another book unfolding in my head (am putting that on the sticky notes thing); and (b) my house reeks of disinfectant, after a certain bad dog rolled in something disgusting yesterday morning – JUST before we had to do the morning school run – and needed to be scrubbed clean again. His collar may never recover, and I was gagging throughout; he is SO in disgrace. And he is going to have a proper bath this weekend, even if it’s raining :o)

Still, I did another Teapigs order yesterday to cheer me up. My three big faves (chocolate flake, chai and superfruits), plus packs of the cr̬me caramel roiboos and the winter spiced (orange, clove and cinnamon Рthat sounded irresistible).

And I’m cooking salmon with asparagus and parma ham for dinner tonight. (And I bought raspberry panna cotta in M&S. Comfort eating at its finest. Apart from the panna cotta, the rest is healthy and low fat, so I have no guilt.)

And now I'm going to lie on the sofa with the iPad and keep the wifi off so I don't get distracted...

We're having salmon tonight too. It's salmon weather, isn't it? With new potatoes and a mixed salad. Nothing too complex or taxing to cook as I'm feeling particularly low today. :(

Mm, perhaps I should send my husband out for a Chinese takeaway instead. Plunge my depression into all that high-fat, high-carb, high-salt, bad stuff. But then I'd feel even worse in the morning, wouldn't I?

And I'd be even fatter!

Hi,

Hee hee, laughed like hell over doggy roll! I warn mine before he steps outside the garden gate - he always homes-in on chicken poop and that's pretty awful when it warms up on hairy coat. But dead animals - yikes, gruesome pong!

Re comfort food: strawberries coming out of my ears at the mo. I've made pots of jam and have been pigging out big time, topped off with either clotted cream or icecream, sometimes evaporated milk! It was rhubarb crumble or tart beforehand, and I'm keeping a close eye on the gooseberries - swelling in hot sunny garden as I post this.

Oh BTW: re my blond male fest. There's a blond male featured on a HM&B historical cover. I've posted it up on my blog as evidence! ;) He looks awfully like Sean Bean!

best

Jane - mmm, it's definitely salmon weather. Hope you're feeling brighter (and that you managed to avoid the takeaway - as you say, it's the morning after that matters!)

Susan - the chocolate flake tea is the next best thing to eating chocolate, but without the huge amount of calories...

Francine - it did give me an idea for a book scene, but my editor would probably make me take it out *g*

Fresh strawberries in your garden? I am envious! (Must nag DH so we can do some container gardening next year - I think I'm going to have to give up on the 'Can we have a greenhouse?' campaign because he is NOT budging.)

Strawberries go really nicely with rhubarb in a crumble. (And of course ice cream... note to self, you promised to make strawberry ice cream today, so finish book and THEN make ice cream!)

And well done on finding a historical blond!
