50th party blog guest - Sarah Morgan

My guest today is lovely Sarah Morgan, who writes the most brilliant Modern (Presents) and Medical Romances. She sold a couple of years before me, and I checked her first book ‘Worth the Risk’ out of the library enough times to make her take pity on me and send me a copy :) We went through a phase of writing about the same topics without realising, so there’s a joke between us about writing each other’s books (but I would kill to write men as gorgeous as hers). She’s one of the nicest people I know, and at RNA conferences I tend to share a house with her and Nicola Cornick. This means having civilised cups of tea and good biscuits, and – well, she’ll tell you about that. Though we’re not always that sober – there was an M&;B party where champagne was consumed and we took turns wearing my feather boa (yes, I do have one, and you’ll meet the person who gave it to me a bit later), and she was still finding tiny feathers days later…

And I arrived home yesterday from a week's research trip to discover that SARAH MORGAN WON A RITA!!!! (That's a huge achievement and I'm so thrilled for her!)

Anyway, over to Sarah.

5 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT KATE by Sarah Morgan

1. She likes chocolate. Anyone who likes chocolate is clearly sane and has good judgement.

2. She knows how to laugh. I still remember the RNA conference at Greenwich when we were talking in the kitchen and laughed until our ribs cracked.

3. She writes lovely stories – I love her books!

4. She is generous to her friends. (Did I mention chocolate? Through the letterbox in times of need. Mmm)

5. She knows about technology so when I’m stuck I have someone to ask.

I could go on (and frequently do, to the dismay of my family) but this is Kate’s party and I don’t want to hog the dance floor……

So congratulations Kate! 50 books. Wow. I feel the need to lie down.

Thanks for inviting me here and to celebrate I’d like to offer a copy of my latest US release, Defying the Prince. Leave a comment below and Kate will pick a winner ☺

Hi Sarah, loved Greenwich. Remember meeting you both in costa where Kate was showing me her shiny new iPad and I was very jealous. Congrats on the Rita. Loved the story and loved the tights!

Sarah and Kate, when are you coming to Australia, huh?

We have chocolate here too. Caramello Koalas. Tim Tams. And other yummy things like Hugh Jackman. And stuff. Just sayin';)

Scarlet, I remember meeting you in Costa! It was a fun morning. And Kate always has a shiny new something so I've learned to live with that - the benefit is that she can usually tell me what is worth buying and what isn't because she's tried it! Thanks for the congrats.

Liz, thank you so much! The Rita win came as a total shock I must confess. I was still munching on a delicious, juicy piece of melon from the fruit plate two minutes before they called my name. I had no expectations of winning so I didn't see any point in holding back. Good job it wasn't something chewy or I would have been on stage with my jaws locked together. Not a good look :) x

Hi Katie and thanks for the congrats! So glad you enjoy my books. I know the lovely Kate Hardy (all the best people are called Kate!) will agree that getting to know readers is one of the best things about writing.

Have a lovely weekend

Hi lovely Kelly, after my flight to California I may never have the backbone to fly to Australia - I'm too fidgety to sit still for that long. I prowled around the airplane and drove everyone mad. On the other hand I'd fly a long way for Tim Tams and Caramello Koalas. And as for Hugh Jackman - OK, I'm booking my flight now.....

Hi Sarah. wwe haven't met in 'reality' but anybody who loves chocolate is a friend of mine!! Well done!

Is it likes chocolate or loves chocolate? I have learnt a lot about chocolate through Kate Hardy...
And LOL about the melon chewing before you won Sarah! But by all accounts you gavea brill speech.

Sarah Morgan said...

Hi Carol, I agree that chocolate is a wonderful bonding material :)) Thanks for your kind wishes x

Sarah Morgan said...

Michelle, it's probably 'loves' hehe. And yes, Kate is the chocolate expert.

As for my speech - I confess it was rather a daunting experience in front of so many people not helped by the fact I had to make my editor's speech too because she lost her voice! Naturally I took advantage of the situation to give myself a nice fat advance for my next book and she couldn't make a sound :)

Lovely to see so many people here! And LOL at being outed as the chocolate-loving gadget fiend. Kelly, Trish Morey sent me Caramello Koalas so I could understand how wonderful they are. (And what a great idea - Sarah and I should indeed descend on you. Though I think Heidi Rice and Abby Green would kill us if we didn't bring them with us.)

Congrats again, Sarah, on a very well-deserved Rita win!

Congrats on the RITA Sarah. I downloaded it onto my Kindle and will look forward to reading it. Great to see everyone celebrating Kate's 50th. Party time ALL round I think! Caroline x

Hi LDB, 50 books is amazing - she is a writing fiend. I suspect the ipad is responsible :) Glad you enjoyed the Ferraras!

Hope you enjoy it Caroline! Yes, we're all partying here :)

Fiend, indeed :) (What Sarah hasn't said is that she writes at the same speed. Or possibly faster. I remember celebrating her 50th a couple of years back... and I'm loving her latest just as much as her first!)

Congrats for the book! I enjoy reading your books. Some of your books have been translated in Indonesia.

Sarah Morgan said...

Hi Juliana, that's great! I sometimes hear from readers in Indonesia and it's very exciting :) Slightly odd to think my books have travelled there but I haven't. One day I hope!
