Ring in the new

Righty. 2010 was awful; I want 2011 to be a much better year.

I was tempted not to make any goals this year; but that’s possibly because at the moment everything feels very chaotic. I function much better when I have structures in place (hence ‘Scary Kate’ and the organisation/time management stuff – and it has to be my structure, not something imposed on me, or I feel boxed in and it doesn't work). Bottom line: I need to do some streamlining and take certain actions to get my life back into balance.

The best thing there is to keep it very simple. So, this year’s goals, in order of priority:

1. Learn to say no.
2. Work smarter rather than harder.
3. Find some kind of exercise that I enjoy doing, schedule it in and stick to it.

And I’ve started already because I’m not justifying them – that comes under #1 :o)

Do you have any resolutions or goals for this year? I’d love to hear them.

I wish you all health, happiness and fulfilment for 2011. Happy New Year!

Your goals seem perfectly reasonable to me Kate - especially the " work smarter rather than harder " - and I know you can do it.
There is no crime in having some fun and enjoying this precious life when we have the chance - so well done you for planning in some fun holidays and exercise.
Especially when life throws rocks.
*Raising my beaker of tea to the screen in a toast to the goals!*
As for me? As a newbie, I have learnt so much about my writing process and what I enjoy and need in my life during the past 12 months that it is time to put that knowledge to good use.
AND I have booked 2 holidays in the next 6 months.
2011 is going to be mega.
Health and balance to you too Kate. Happy New Year.

I think a major resolution has to be making time to "fill the well". When you've been writing books for nearly twenty years you have to go a long way down to hit sweet water!

Hope you have a great New Year, Kate. Take care of yourself.

Hope 2011 is a good year for you Kate. My NYR's are to blog less and write more - so working SMARTER *should* be one of my NYR as well ;0 - well we'll see how *that* goes. Have a great evening. Caroline x

Kate,
I like your goals for 2011, especially saying "no." It can be hard sometimes, but I've learned stressed out, overextended me is no help to anyone.
Most of my 2010 resolutions revolved around cutting down my impulse/indulgent spending. They mostly worked with a few exceptions ;-)
For 2011 my resolutions are much easier, I hope!
1) Find something to be grateful for everyday (I whined way too much in 2011)
2) Get back in the habit of wearing sunscreen. I wore it religiously as a teenager and now that I'm in my 30s with a toddler to chase after I've gotten lazy.

Happy New Year Kate! I love all of your goals - so much so that I'm thinking of "borrowing" them ;)

I hope 2011 is a fabulous year for you and filled with success and happiness!
